Position: Orthopedic Technician

No. of Posts: Two (2)
Location: Kalema Road, Lungujja


Job Summary

The Orthopedic Technician is responsible for designing, fabricating, and fitting custom orthopedic appliances to meet the specific needs of patients.


Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Diploma in Orthopedic Technology from a recognised institution.
  • Valid registration and annual practising licence with the Allied Health Professionals’ Council.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in physiotherapy or physical rehabilitation in a hospital, healthcare centre, or busy health practice.
  • Experience in inclusion, accessibility of services, and services for persons with disabilities.
  • Practical knowledge of managing disabilities/impairments in children.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Fabricate, assemble, and maintain assistive devices.
  2. Regularly service and ensure proper functionality of patient devices.
  3. Position, align, and adjust orthopedic devices to ensure proper fit and maximum comfort for patients.
  4. Modify or customise assistive devices to meet individual patient needs.
  5. Educate patients on the use, adjustment, care, and adaptation of their devices.
  6. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, rehabilitation therapists, patients, and their families, to prescribe appropriate devices.
  7. Conduct community outreach to raise awareness about the use and accessibility of assistive devices.

Desirable Skills and Competencies

  • Practical knowledge of various disabilities.
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills, including report writing.
  • Experience and a solid understanding of the disability sector in Uganda.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and empathy, particularly when working with vulnerable individuals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism.
  • Effective resource management within the department and medical facility.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to challenging operating environments.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Agreement

The selected candidate will be required to sign a contractual agreement with Mukisa Foundation.
