The Foundation is dedicated to enabling families with children who have disabilities to provide nurturing and supportive environments, helping the children lead full and purposeful lives. Position: Physiotherapist
No. of Posts: Two (2)
Location: Kalema Road, Lungujja
Job Summary
The Physiotherapist will be responsible for assessing, providing therapy, and following up on all clients, ensuring quality rehabilitation services.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualifications
Essential:
- Diploma in Physiotherapy from a recognised institution.
- Valid registration and annual practising licence with the Allied Health Professionals’ Council.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in physiotherapy or physical rehabilitation in a hospital, healthcare centre, or busy health practice.
- Experience in inclusion and accessibility of services for persons with disabilities.
- Practical knowledge of managing disabilities/impairments in children.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assess the needs of identified children using comprehensive assessment tools.
- Provide appropriate rehabilitation interventions to children with disabilities.
- Design individualised learning pathways for children with disabilities.
- Develop physical rehabilitation interventions and tools tailored to the needs identified during assessments.
- Refer clients to relevant service providers where necessary.
- Seek medical advice from qualified professionals when required.
- Train programme participants and caregivers in basic exercises and strategies to improve general body conditions and prevent secondary complications in children with disabilities.
- Document treatment goals, progress, and outcomes, including detailed assessment reports, case studies, termly and annual reports.
- Conduct health education, sensitisation, training workshops, and seminars for clients, families, and communities about disabilities.
- Collaborate with teachers and team members to plan, review, and implement programmes for children with physical and mental disabilities.
- Carry out outreach programmes for clients and provide progress reports.
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of therapy rooms, toys, and all equipment necessary for children’s wellbeing.
- Actively promote Mukisa Foundation’s vision and mission.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Desirable Skills and Competencies
- Practical knowledge of disabilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, and Down syndrome, including assessment, intervention, and progress monitoring.
- Strong written and oral English communication skills, including report writing.
- Experience in the disability education sector in Uganda.
- Strong interpersonal skills and empathy, particularly when working with vulnerable individuals.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of discretion and professionalism.
- Resourceful and efficient in using departmental resources.
- Adaptability to challenging operating environments.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Agreement
The selected candidate will be required to sign a contractual agreement with Mukisa Foundation.
