Where We Work
Mukisa Foundation Across Uganda
Mukisa Foundation operates throughout Uganda to ensure that children with disabilities and their families can access the support they deserve whether they live in the bustling capital, a rural village, or a remote island.
Our work is built on a strong community based approach that reaches families where they are. We combine direct service delivery with advocacy, partnerships, and capacity building to create inclusive environments for children with disabilities in every setting.
Through our network of regional hubs and outreach partnerships, Mukisa Foundation brings together health, education, and socio economic empowerment programs that transform lives. From the urban heart of Kampala to remote corners of the Karamoja and West Nile regions, we are committed to building a Uganda where every child can live, learn, and thrive in dignity.
Core Operational Areas
Our core operations are concentrated in Kampala, Mukono, Mpigi, Wakiso, and Luwero. These districts serve as the hubs of our 360° model of care, where we deliver integrated programs in health, education, socio-economic empowerment, advocacy, and awareness.
- Kampala: Our headquarters serve as the central coordination hub for the Mukiisa Foundation. From here, we lead our advocacy efforts, foster strategic partnerships, and provide essential services to a significant population of children with disabilities.
- Mukono, Mpigi, Wakiso, and Luwero: Central-region districts close to Kampala. These areas were chosen because of high demand for disability services, limited access to specialist care, and opportunities to build strong, community-based programs.
Outreach and Partnership Areas
Napak (Karamoja region)
A remote, high-poverty area where we partner with local stakeholders to provide disability services and challenge stigma.
Gulu (Northern Uganda)
A post-conflict region where many families still live with trauma and hardship; we support disability inclusion as part of recovery and resilience.
Moyo (West Nile region):
We supported the establishment of this project in 2020 through comprehensive capacity building, staff recruitment, and program implementation, and we continue to provide strategic oversight and technical support to its management. Through this partnership, the project currently supports over 400 children with disabilities from Uganda and South Sudan, delivering services using the Mukisa 360 holistic care model.
Kanungu (Western Uganda)
A rural district where we strengthen local organisations to include children with disabilities in their work, tailoring approaches to each partner’s context.
Special Focus – Bussi Island
Bussi Island, located on Lake Victoria, is home to an estimated 19,000 people, many of whom have traditionally depended on fishing for their livelihoods. In recent years, strict government fishing regulations have led many families to gradually transition into farming as an alternative source of income.
